Summery Flip Flop Soap

Two Ways To Make Too Cute Tropical Flip Flops!

This month's newsletter project was inspired by daydreams of summer, and incorporates the always fun faux-swirl technique as well as a dot technique. Next time you head to the beach, don't forget your flip flops!

How to set-up the pouring tray
Faux Swirl Flip Flops Instructions:
ONE:
Cut the Clear Melt and Pour base into small chunks. In a heat safe container, melt the base on 30 second bursts in the microwave, stirring between bursts.
TWO:
Add 4 mL Passionfruit Papaya Fragrance Oil to the clear soap and stir until incorporated. Split the clear soap into three 2 oz portions.
THREE: Color one portion of clear soap with the Shimmer Coral Color Block, one portion with the Shimmer Yellow Color Block, and the last portion with the Electric Bubblegum Color Block.  Use a clean-up tool to scrape off little bits of the color block to stir into the soap. Remember that when coloring melt and pour, what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG)!
FOUR: When all of the portions are at about 130
ºF, create a faux-swirl in the flowers of the flip flop by pouring the colors in a random order, one on top of the other, without waiting for the first layer to harden. You want the next color to break through the previous layers. Once all of the flowers are filled, spray with Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol to eliminate bubbles and allow to harden.
FIVE: Use a clean-up tool to clean up any dribbles.

SIX: Cut the White Melt and Pour base into small chunks. In a heat safe container, melt the base on 30 second bursts in the microwave, stirring between bursts.
SEVEN: Add 8 mL Passionfruit Papaya Fragrance Oil to the soap and stir until incorporated.
EIGHT: Color the white soap with the Perfect Orange color block. Again, remember WYSIWYG!
NINE: Pour the orange colored soap into just the straps of the flip-flop. Spray with Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol to eliminate bubbles and allow to harden. Clean up any dribbles with a clean-up tool.
TEN: Once the straps have hardened, spray the soap with alcohol. Repeat step four, this time including all four colors of soap, to create the faux swirl. If you don't feel like it's swirly enough, run a small skewer through the still-liquid soap. But restrain yourself from using the skewer too much or you'll overmix the soap!
Once all of the cavities are filled, spray with rubbing alcohol to eliminate bubbles and allow to harden.
Use your extra soap for the next project!

Polka Dot Flip Flops Instructions:
ONE:
Reheat the Shimmer Coral and Shimmer Yellow colored soaps. When the soap is 130ºF, reference step four to create a faux-swirl in the hibiscus flower of the flip flop. Once all of the flowers are filled, spray with Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol to eliminate bubbles and allow to harden.
TWO: Reheat the Orange colored soap. Spray the hardened soap in the mold with rubbing alcohol. When the orange soap is 130ºF, pour into each cavity of the flip flop mold. Spray again with rubbing alcohol to eliminate any bubbles and allow to harden.
THREE:
Unmold the soaps and use a straw to gently create small holes in the surface of the soap.
FOUR:
Reheat the Electric Bubblegum colored soap. With your dropper, begin filling the holes with the pink soap, spraying with Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol after you fill each dot. Don't worry about overflow, you can always go back with a clean up tool and scrape the excess off. Alllow the soap dots to harden.
FIVE:
Give your soaps one final touch up with the clean-up tool and you're done!
